Embracing Alamosa’s Vibrant Community Spirit

Alamosa, nestled in the San Luis Valley, is a community rich in culture and tradition. Throughout the year, our town comes alive with events that showcase our unique heritage and foster a strong sense of togetherness.

SummerFest on the Rio

One of the highlights of our summer is the annual SummerFest on the Rio. This three-day festival in Cole Park features live music, arts and crafts, and a variety of food vendors. It’s a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Rio Grande while engaging in fun activities. The festival typically takes place the first weekend in June, marking the start of summer festivities in Alamosa.

First Fridays

From May through October, downtown Alamosa transforms on the first Friday of each month. The streets buzz with energy as local artisans, musicians, and food vendors come together to create a vibrant open-air market. It’s an excellent way to support local businesses and experience the creative spirit of our community.

Rio Frio Ice Fest

Embracing the chill of winter, the Rio Frio Ice Fest is a unique event that combines an ice festival with the Rio Frio 5K Race on Ice. Held in late January, this three-day celebration includes ice carving, an icy bonfire, and the exhilarating 5K race on the frozen Rio Grande. It’s a testament to Alamosa’s ability to find joy and community spirit, even in the coldest months.

Mercadillo en el Rio

During the summer months, the Rio Grande Farm Park hosts the Mercadillo en el Rio, a farmers market that brings together local farmers, artisans, and community members. Held on Wednesdays from July through September, this market offers fresh produce, handmade crafts, live music, and delicious food, fostering a sense of community and support for local agriculture.

These events are just a glimpse into the vibrant tapestry of Alamosa’s community life. They reflect our town’s commitment to celebrating our heritage, supporting local talent, and bringing people together. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a visitor, participating in these events is a wonderful way to experience the heart and soul of Alamosa.
